Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) on ‘Enhancing Trade and Investment in South Ethiopia Region’

Jan 30, 2025 in Arba Minch was a significant milestone for the South Ethiopia region's private sector. As President of the South Ethiopia Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (SECCSA), I had the honor of opening the Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) event, hosted jointly by SECCSA and the South Ethiopia Region Trade & Industry Bureau.

The dialogue was rich, insightful, and exactly the kind of collaborative effort needed to drive economic growth. We delved deep into the core issues facing our business community:

➡️ I presented on the "Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions for Private Sector Actors" in South Ethiopia, framing our current landscape and future aspirations.
➡️ Mr. Ayalew Bitane provided a crucial analysis of "Law & Business Regulations in Ethiopia," offering clarity on the regulatory environment.
➡️ A groundbreaking research paper, "The Possible Impact of Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) on Agricultural Product Traders in South Ethiopia," was presented by Dr. Wondwossen Jerene. This vital study, funded by SECCSA and meticulously prepared by Dr. Wondwossen Jerene, Dr. Ezo Emako, Dr. Taye Tadesse, and Mr. Mulugeta Fekadu, sparked essential conversations on fiscal policy.

The panel discussion that followed was truly impressive, featuring vibrant exchanges between government officials, business leaders, and academics. This is where ideas turn into actionable pathways.

A special note of gratitude to CIPE for their financial support in making this pivotal dialogue possible. Also, my sincere thanks to the dedicated team—Mr. Ahmed, Mr. Mesay, and Ms. Ibtisam—for their exceptional patience and tireless support in orchestrating this successful event.

This PPD has strengthened our foundation for collaboration. The momentum is building, and together with the Trade & Industry Bureau, we are committed to transforming these dialogues into tangible results for South Ethiopia's prosperity.

For better future
